Post-operative Shapers for your clients

Post-operative Shapers for your clients

When health is on the line, a good post-op shaper should be something to consider depending on the doctor’s recommendation. There are several things to understand when selecting the perfect one. Make sure that the shaper you are going to recommend to your clients has everything they need and has the quality and technology to take care of their necessities and more.
.
Athletic garments, yoga wear or lingerie shaper are not designed for post-surgical wear, these cannot provide the specific features you require, most of all, they can hurt you, slow down the healing process or not even offer the necessary compression your body needs to heal.
.
A post-operative garment has a specific purpose: It encourages the healing and recovery process after a surgical procedure (reconstructive or aesthetic) and it helps the skin conform to its new contour. Post-surgical compression and pressure of the afflicted site is desirable, it helps minimize the tissue and stretching thanks to the accumulating fluids on the region, especially when it's about a procedure that removes fat tissue.
.
A proper post-op pressure garment and compression can help you achieve:
.
Fluid reduction and swelling in the area.
.
Increases blood circulation in the surgical area.
.
Promotes proper skin adhesion to newly contoured areas
.
Holds surgical dressings in place until removed.
.
A post-op garment is specially designed to provide compression and support to an area of the body has undergone a major change due to liposuction or aesthetic surgery. While assisting with supporting the tissue, the compression provided by the garment helps reduce swelling or the accumulation of fluid in the surgical area.

There are many different styles of postoperative garments, all with different features and uses based on their style of the garment. To simplify the process of selecting the ideal garment for you, here a few guidelines. Please note, we recommend you discuss your entire postoperative recovery with your doctor and ask their advice on which garment style is the best for your recovery.
.
Garment Selection Tips:
.
Fabric - the fabric must be strong, designed to retain its shape and form during extended wear, provide compression and support from all angles and should be breathable.
.
Design - the garment must provide the ideal amount of compression and support to the surgical area. Too much compression slows down the healing process, not enough compression defeats the purpose of the garment.
.
Open Crotch - the body will be swollen and sore during the initial recovery time, you do not want to remove your garment each time you need to use the facilities. The garment must feature an open crotch that will allow you to use the facilities without having to remove the garment.
.
Flat Seams - you will be wearing your garment for extended periods of time, it will “press” the skin, all seams must be flat or the seam line can leave an indention in the skin and a raised seam can become very uncomfortable.
No Seams at key surgical sites- seams can rub and irritate a surgical site; it should be designed without seams at key surgical sites or minimal, flat seams.
.
Zippers, Hook & Eye closures - the garment you wear immediately after your procedure must have zippers, you will not be able to “step into” a zipperless garment and pull the garment on. The zippers must be lined to avoid the zipper digging into your body during extended wear, it is recommended that hook & eye closures be used under the zippers to reduce any stress on the zipper.
.
The most common garment styles used for body contouring have full coverage (fabric covering) of the abdomen (generally feature adjustable shoulder straps) with coverage on the legs to just below the knee. This style of the garment usually will provide the coverage necessary for wear following body contouring procedures of the abdomen and/or thigh area.
